Sample Itinerary - High School

Day 1 Parents/Guardians join us from 7:30 am to 9:15 am at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
Introduction to Leadership, Eco-Footprints, the West and Interrelationships
Investigate native animals (up-close)
Prepare packs for trip
Spend night at ASDM
Day 2 Leave Tucson, backpack into Canyon de Chelly (Chinle AZ)
Meet settlers of the West in Snowflake, AZ
Hike to bottom of Canyon de Chelly in Chinle AZ with our Navajo guides
Discuss why & where peoples in the past lived in the dry West
Spend night in Canyon de Chelly
Day 3 Drive from Chinle, AZ to Moab, UT to Green River launch point (NE Utah)
Prep for river trip
Drive with Western River Expeditions from Moab, UT to Sand Wash (river put-in)
Spend night at put-in
Day 4 - 8 Raft the Green River (Desolation and Gray Canyons)
Study water in the West, ancient cultures, hydrology, geomorphology, native plants, biology, fire science, John Wesley Powell's expedition, water use issues, endangered species, invasive species, NASA satellite imagery and more!
Day 8 Back to Civilization — time to clean up — showers & laundry
Western River Expeditions returns us to Moab, UT
Spend night in Moab — campground
Day 9 Layover in Moab
Hike in Arches National Park to study geology and effects of water on landscapes
Wastefree Lunch Challenge
Spend night in Moab — campground
Day 10 Drive from Moab, UT to Page, AZ
Tour Glen Canyon Dam, debate pros and cons of dam and other water use issues
Enjoy the view while driving from Page to Lee's Ferry on the Colorado River
Spend the night at Lee's Ferry - campground
Day 11 Drive from Lee's Ferry to Tucson
Spend night at ASDM
Day 12 Day at Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
