Trevor's Story
Earth Camp Commitment
For one, riding my bike a lot more will help me reduce my carbon footprint. Another one is to buy local food at a farmers market.
Bicas is a place where you can take classes to fix your bike, make a bike from recycled parts, buy and trade parts with other bike riders, and even make art from old bike parts.
I need to ride my bike more. I already have all the safety gear. I have a helmet and bike. I also have my mom to drive me to the farmers market, or better yet I will ride my bike there and meet her there and then we get fresh food to eat.
Lots of people are like me, love the earth and care for it. So if everyone will be trying their best to save the earth... we can do it. Such things as riding bikes reduces the CO2 in the atmosphere. The same thing with buying local food because you don't have to drive far since it was grown locally.
I think I'm going to choose a tent. I'm choosing a tent because that was my first time camping ever . So that was an important time for me.
Questions & Answers
What did you think camp would be like and did it turn out that way or differently?
Camp was actually exactly what I thought it would be... awesome. Though I was expecting a guy I knew was here last year. But if didn't matter because everyone at camp was really cool.
What was your favorite activity and why?
Harvesting the saguaro fruit was my favorite. the fruit was bright red and would open when ripe. The only problem is that our tool broke. But that was ok because the other groups shared their tools with us.
What did we do at camp that impressed you the most and why?
What surprised me the most was how much we would learn, explore, and play. I mean, everything impressed me. And... I like that.
Who inspired you the most during camp?
Amy was a leader that inspired me. The gleam in her eye and how she helps me feel better helps me learn and become interested.
Tell me about a time at camp when you saw someone else demonstrate great leadership qualities. What did they do?
Callum was a person that showed leadership. He always takes the lead and always thinks he can do something. His confidence made the whole group move forward and he was able to joke around too which made everyone feel relaxed and comfortable.
In what ways did Earth Camp help you think about your future, e.g. careers or higher education?
Earth Camp gave me good ideas of what I might do when I grow up. Along with telling my family why we should recycle, reuse, refuse, reduce, and be responsible.
Now that you have experienced Earth camp, how do you view water in Tucson and how will that affect your future actions and choices?
Mostly using the resource less so we don't run out so quickly. It's a limited resource, and we're not going to have an infinite supply. And now I'm also not going to use plastic water bottles anymore.
