ASDM Sonoran Desert Digital Library
Several years ago staff at the Desert Museum began working on a project to organize all of the images in the Museum into one central location accessible to everyone. Gradually, the scope of the project became larger and the Desert Museum received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to fund the current phase (Phase Two) of this project in cooperation with the University of Arizona Library. This phase of the project is to develop the technical and operational infrastructure that will serve as a foundation for the digital library and its future phases.
The long term goal of the project is to develop a web-based comprehensive library of authoritative information related to the Sonoran Desert to serve the research and information needs of a broad range of audiences, including students, teachers, natural history researchers and scientists. When complete the digital library will include images, video, audio, documents, publications, exhibit information, educational materials, and artwork relating to the plants, animals, minerals, landforms, landscapes, habitats, and native cultures of the Sonoran Desert region.
