Snake! Rattle & Roll — Mexican Rattlesnakes from Sonora and Baja California:
May 31st to August 30th, 2014
On May 31, 2014, the Museum will unveil a new reptile exhibit, "Snake! Rattle & Roll", introducing intriguing and lesser-known Mexican rattlesnakes from Sonora and Baja California.
Rattlesnakes are native only to the Americas, ranging from southern Canada to Argentina. While the Sonoran desert of Arizona is rich in reptile diversity, just south of our border the states of Sonora and Baja California are home to over 25 different types of rattlesnake, more than any other region.
"Snake! Rattle & Roll" is an opportunity to get a close up look at a collection of pit vipers not commonly on exhibit at the Desert Museum. See the only "rattleless" rattlesnake and other venomous snakes ranging from isolated rocky island habitats in the Sea of Cortez to the tropical deciduous forest of extreme southern Sonora.
