Research and Conservation in Southern Sonora, Mexico

Tecoma stans var. angustata (yellow bells, gloria)

Normally a shrub that can reach tree proportions in mesic conditions. The large, bright yellow flowers are borne throughout the warm months. Tecoma stans stans has broader leaves and occurs south of our region.

The range of this tropical species extends well into the Arizona Upland Sonoran Desert near Tucson, Arizona. Here it is usually found in sheltered canyons. Nonetheless it occasionally freezes to the ground, but regrows quickly and flowers the next season on new growth.
