Covid–19 Permission Guidelines
At the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, publishing books is part of our educational mission, and a way to offer information and enjoyment to our visitors and all who want to learn about our unique region. During this COVID-19 shutdown, as educators, librarians, booksellers, and students work or study from home, we have adapted our copyright policies to support our wider community and grant permission to share our publications through videos and live-stream events, as outlined below. Thank you for your interest in our publications and for including Desert Museum books in your curricula and event calendars.
For Teachers and Educators
Educational Platforms: For teachers and educators who would like to share content from our publications, the Desert Museum grants permission to temporarily create and post readings of our titles to closed educational platforms such as Google Classroom, Schoology, Edmodo, and Discovery Education until the end of the school year. At that time, the videos should be removed from the these platforms.
YouTube: If uploading videos to YouTube for the purpose of sharing a link on a closed educational platform, the video must be designated as “Unlisted” (or not “Public”) to ensure a closed system.
Live-Streaming: The Desert Museum grants permission to read and live-stream our titles on YouTube, Facebook Live, Instagram Live, Twitter, or any other live-streaming platforms available to a closed school network. Live-streams cannot be available to the public, recorded, or permanently archived on any social media platforms. Live-streams may be available for a 24-hour period after their initial recording, and must be deleted after. Please note that most social media platforms automatically archive live-streams, so you’ll have to follow their instructions to make sure recordings are deleted and not archived.
Important Note: Reading and reporting requirements (below) must be followed for all video posts and live-streams.
Librarians and Booksellers
Live-Streaming: For librarians and booksellers who would like to include Desert Museum titles in live-streamed reading events, the Desert Museum grants permission do so on YouTube, Facebook Live, Instagram Live, Twitter, or other live-streaming platforms.
Restrictions: Live-streaming events that include Desert Museum titles may be available for a 24-hour period after their initial recording, but cannot be recorded or permanently posted or archived on any social media platforms. Please note that most social media platforms automatically archive live-streams, so you’ll have to follow their instructions to make sure recordings are deleted and not archived.
Important Note: Reading and reporting guidelines must be followed for all video posts and live-streams.
