This special screening is a fundraiser for Woven Words: Poetry of the Sonoran Desert. Woven Words is an exciting new collaboration that pairs two Tucson cultural institutions: the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and the University of Arizona Poetry Center. The project will feature 30 poetry installations throughout the Museum grounds, each underscoring the profound relationship between knowledge, the imagination, and an ethos of conservation.

Poet Alison Deming, an Agnese Nelms Haury Chair in Environment and Social Justice at the University of Arizona, will speak on Merwin's legacy before the screening.

A reception will follow the film.

Donations for Woven Words will be accepted during the reception. To learn more about the project or to RSVP for this special screening, please contact Cree Zischke: 520-883-3039 or czischke@desertmuseum.org. RSVPs are required for this event.

W.S. Merwin will be on the PBS News Hour in the coming days — read a short article prefacing the conversation that PBS will present. Included in the article is a clip of Merwin reciting the poem from which this special screening takes its name.

“During our first visit to the Desert Museum in 1994 we agreed it was the best full spectrum natural history experience we'd ever had - and right here in our own backyard!
We've supported the Museum annually since then and encourage friends and business associates to do the same.”
