species - A natural evolutionary group of organisms that have a unique set of characteristics (like body shape and behavior) that distinguishes them from other species. Individuals within the same species can reproduce with each other to produce fertile offspring. Species is the basic unit of biological classification.

surveillance - A formal process whereby information is acquired and recorded from surveys, checks or other procedures related to the presence or absence of a pest, weed or disease.

symbiotic - Refers to a close ecological relationship between two organisms. The relationship may be beneficial (mutualistic) or detrimental (e.g. parasitism) to one or both organisms.
