Earth Camp 2011 for Educators
Overview
Finally, an Earth Camp for teachers! Modeled on our successful teen camps, Earth Camp for Educators gives middle and high school teachers the tools to inspire and empower their students to think globally and act locally.
With water resources as a focus, you will step through a Powers-of-Ten framework, learning and developing lessons to teach about water from the molecular to the regional scale. The highlight of the experience is a four day canoe trip on the Colorado River near Hoover Dam, where you will be immersed in water science and management. The program will connect this ground-based perspective to views from space, with subsequent workshops on how to access and use NASA satellite images to gain new perspectives and increase conceptual understanding. You will then apply this framework to develop lessons, units, museum exhibits and service learning opportunities for your students.
Earth Camp for Educators requires a year-long commitment, from April 2011 to April 2012. Attendance is required at four Saturday workshops as well as two four-day sessions during the summer, one of which is a four-day canoe trip on the Colorado River.
