Organization: Catalina State Park Buffel Slayers
Description: Join us for the last buffelgrass dig of 2022. We will revisit a hillside above Bear Wash off of the 50 Year Trail. The hike is approximately 20 minutes on fairly level ground. Work will be along a small wash and up on a hillside. Be prepared to work off-trail.
Meeting Location: Meet at the Equestrian Center near the Trailhead of the 50 Year Trail. From the Park entrance, take the left after the big wash crossing. Go past the campgrounds and turn right into the parking area at the end of the road. Park on the left near the corrals and meet at the picnic tables.
Buffelgrass pull location: 11570 N. Oracle Rd., Oro Valley, AZ
Volunteers: 17 registered out of a total capacity of 40
Tools Provided: Pick-mattocks, digging bars, hand picks, work gloves
Bring: 2 Liters of water, snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hat
Wear: Long pants and light-weight long sleeve shirt, hiking boots or sturdy shoes, hat
Additional Information: Get into the Park for free! This site is appropriate for most all ages.

Time: 8am - 12pm

Organization: Saguaro National Park
Description: Hike about 30 minutes on relatively flat ground to an area of rapidly increasing buffelgrass. Terrain may be steep and rocky at the site. Also get a chance to learn other non-native species such as tickgrass, and the native flora and fauna as well.
Meeting Location: Meet at the Trailhead for Douglas Spring Trail, which is at the very east end of Speedway, right across from the entrance to Tanque Verde Ranch. Meet under the flag! Some/most people may need to park along the shoulders of Speedway with the rest of the regular hiking crowd.

Additional Information: Get a free 1-day pass to the park (valid for 3 months)! It may be steep. Age 12 and older okay. People under 18 years need approval from their guardian.

Organization: Sonoran Desert Weedwackers - Pima County NRPR
Description: Volunteers will help with manual removal of buffelgrass plants for about 3-4 hours on a Sonoran Desert hillslope using lightweight hand tools. We will hike as a group to the work area, about 10 minutes on a well-developed trail. Snacks and beverages will be provided at the end of the event!

Description: The hike will be short (about 3-4 miles RT), but off-trail and across rough terrain. The last quarter mile is very steep. The worksite is on a steep slope. Take as many breaks as you like to sit and enjoy the grand view of the northern Tucson Mountains.
Meeting Location: Please contact the organizer for more information: Frank Staub, fjstaub@hotmail.com 520-260-1400. The meeting place is in Picture Rocks at the end of 2 miles of dirt road. Although the road is very rough, 4WD is not required.

Tools Provided: National Park personnel will come with us and provide instructions, gloves, and tools
Bring: Two liters of liquid, and protection from the sun (hat and sunscreen).

Additional Information: Not only will you spend time in one of the prettiest desert landscapes on earth, you may win a saguaro cactus for your yard. Pima County has provided a saguaro in a one-gallon container to be raffled off.
